We recently rode the MS 150 bike ride from Houston to Austin. The ride is a two day fund raiser for Multiple Sclerosis research– a cause that has been very dear to me and my family since I was diagnosed with MS in 1999.
This was my fourteenth time to do the ride and Emergent has sponsored our team for the last seven years. Despite having to bow out of Sunday’s ride into Austin with back spasms, I simply can’t describe how fulfilling it is to be a part of it. The energy of the ride, from the enthusiastic support of hundreds of volunteers to the crowds waving and cheering along the route, continues to amaze me.
The logistics of supporting 12,000 riders over the course of two days is simply astounding. Team Emergent had about twenty riders, and more than two dozen volunteers that were focused on a variety of chores, from setting up camp and cooking to moving riders and bikes to the starting line and everything in between. We simply couldn’t do this without our tireless volunteers- and it really gives everyone (regardless of their cycling ability!) a way to participate.
Our team fundraising will top $15,000 again this year – though we have a small team, we are consistently among the leaders in funds raised per person. Can’t wait to see what we can do next year! – See more at: https://emergenttechnologies.com/blog/team-emergent-rides-the-ms-150-and-raises-over-15-000-to-help-fund-multiple-sclerosis-research#sthash.ZPUokRiR.dpuf
