“What do you want to build today, Tommy?” That’s what my grandfather, Daddy Tom, would ask me each hot summer morning in Wimberley, TX when I entered his workshop.
We would sit down together and draw out a design, gather materials and tools and start a new project. My job was to create something of value; from a stool so I could actually reach the tools, to a storage box, to a wooden train. The endless possibilities and combinations for new creations captivated and inspired me. Little did I know at that time that Daddy Tom would profoundly influence and guide my future and how grateful I would be for those hot summer days that I spent with him in his shop.
Skip ahead 50 years. Today I am founder and CEO of Emergent Technologies, Inc. where I’m still actively involved with and inspired by innovation. Our mission at Emergent is to bring novel, breakthrough technologies that solve REAL WORLD problems to market. We rely heavily on industry partners not only to help us identify what these needs are, but also to participate in the development and funding of projects to address them. We have technologies that will soon significantly improve drug delivery to patients, that could someday allow for any organ to be transplanted into any body, to products that could directly impact global water shortages . . . just to name a few.
We are also constantly on the lookout for inventors and entrepreneurs who share our vision; who have solutions to real world problems or are interested in getting involved in opportunities that we have already identified. So let me ask you this, What do YOU want to build today?
